Ch¡¦an Songs of An-Hsiang
Author: Pearl

Many symbols emerged in my mind when I heard that a mother was going to teach people to sing ¡§ Ch¡¦an songs¡¨.  The first symbol appearing in my mind was the exclamation mark.  Indeed, what a special offer to share! I was eager to learn; however, a question mark then appeared.  What was ¡§Ch¡¦an¡¨?  Was it difficult?

From the first time sharing, I learned the theme of the songs of An-Hsiang, and the background of establishing An-Hsiang Choir.  I did feel that it would definitely change my way of thinking, so as to affect my perceptions of life and values, though I still did not fully understand what the An-Hsiang Ch¡¦an was about.  In addition, I thought it would open up a new page in my life, and brought me An-Hsiang, peace and joy.

Before teaching a new song, Andrea would always share her experiences by telling us how Master Geng-Yun¡¦s teaching affected every aspect of her life. She would also introduce the background and meaning of the songs. Whenever she spoke of those moving and inspiring experiences, she would become tearful and unable to continue.  Her strong emotion always made me feel sympathetic to her.

The first song I learned was the song named ¡§Cause and Effect¡¨.  After the gathering, the first thing I did when I got home was to change the title of my MSN to be ¡§the cause of the previous life is the effect of this life; the effect of the coming life depends on the cause of the present life.¡¨  It looks simple; however, it is realistically complicated.  It seems not quite true, but in reality it is utterly true.  Though it is an ordinary statement, it truly tells us what our previous, present and future lives are all about.

Since then, I unknowingly changed my attitude towards my life, children, friends and family.  I think this is not only because I have learned the An-Hsiang Ch¡¦an, but also because of being influenced by the friends who have been deeply practicing An-Hsiang Ch¡¦an.  Now I am happier because I am learning how to let go.  My family is more harmonious now, because I am learning to be more content.  In addition, I am improving my social skills, because I know how to share.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Master Geng-Yun and Andrea.
